The Kennedy Homestead

"We Celebrate the Past to Awaken the Future" - John F. Kennedy, August 14th, 1960
I am glad to be here, it took me 115 years to make this trip and 6,000 miles and 3 generations. I'm proud to be here. - From JFK speaking at New Ross.

The Kennedy Homestead is the birthplace of President John F. Kennedy's great grandfather, Patrick Kennedy. It celebrates the story of 5 generations, a story of epic proportions, full of triumph and tragedy.

The centre traces the family history of those who stayed behind and those who left Dunganstown on the immigrant ship to the slums of Boston and to the Camelot days at the White House.

The visitor experience is set in the original farmyard and incorporates unique guided tour, an audio-visual display and a photographic exhibition.

The Kennedy Homestead was opened in 1999 as a visitor centre to accommodate people's interest in John F. Kennedy's Irish ancestry. As president of the United States J.F.K. visited Dunganstown on June 27th, 1963 proudly proclaming his humble roots to the world.

The homestead is still maintained by the same Kennedy family descendants who welcomed J.F.K. and who continue to welcome visitors to share in his legacy.
